Feathered Beauties

The chickens have gotten so big!  It seems like only yesterday they were little chicks.  I guess in the same way, this pregnancy has flown by too.  We have about a month left before the flock is old enough to begin laying eggs and a month or so after that I will have a new chick to take care of!  Until then we are having fun watching them cleverly escape the safety of their enclosure and then wander and play until we can herd them back.  We aren’t too worried about something grabbing one.  Chaser keeps most of the critters away during the day.

The chicken’s feathers are mesmerizing, aren’t they? The sun plays across the patterns and colors in an almost hypnotic way.  Like little walking works of art.  I wish I was able to catch it better on camera.

I have been cooking a bunch, but hardly taking any pictures of my food. By the time its ready I am too pooped to photograph it!  Even so, I hope to have a new recipe up this week.

  1. beautiful 🙂
I’m getting rather nervous about my impending little September chick – how am I going to cope after so many years?!
I’m getting a bit over-obsessed that I think he/she is breech, but an appointment next week should tell me what’s what – hopefully I’ll stop freaking out. You seem so much more calm – perhaps it’s the effect of those beautiful chickens.

    1. Dont be fooled! I have been having a hell of a time fighting my insurance company trying to get them to pay for a birth center. Stress city! I was worried I was going to have to change doctors in the 3rd trimester and go to a hospital. Thankfully I just found out they are going to pay for the birth center and I will be able to have the baby there. Its been almost 8 years since my daughter was born. In some ways I think it might be easier just because my life circumstances are better. Tom and I are more secure, no one in my family is dying (last time my MIL lost her fight with cancer in my 8th month), and the pregnancy has been far easier then the 9 months of morning sickness hell I went through last time around. I am not working right now either so I dont have to worry about getting up for work after a long sleepless night. I do worry about being able to function for my daughter on no sleep. But overall things have been soooo much easier this time around.
My midwife told me that the baby seems to be in the right position, but he could change at any moment. I am super excited about my next apt tomorrow though.
I would try not to worry. I am sure your pregnancy, L&D, and afterward will go just fine! Somehow we women are able to pull off amazing feats of strength and endurance when we have to 🙂

  2. Melissa, not only do you sound so strong and wise but these pictures are absolutely spectacular. Don’t worry about posting cooking photos; keep staring at all these beautiful feathers and you will do great. They are very calming. Good luck.
